"An exceptionally fine restoration—the Duett is in top condition and drives beautifully. Everything has been gone through in the smallest detail, with the goal of preserving its original specification."

Beschreibung

The Volvo was purchased new by the Blekinge County Council and used as a maintenance vehicle at Gullberna Hospital until 1993. It was then bought by a man from Olofström, who drove it until 1995, when it was taken off the road pending restoration.

In 2003, it was sold to a man in Kyrkhult, who owned it until 2009, when the current owner acquired the car.

He began a meticulous restoration, during which the car was fully dismantled and lifted off the frame. As it had largely avoided major rust issues, only the few affected areas required welding. The body was then soda blasted and primed, awaiting reassembly.

In the meantime, the frame was treated for rust protection and the engine was rebuilt. A rear axle with a limited-slip differential was sourced from a military Duett, and an overdrive gearbox was also installed. The odometer was reset, and the car was completed in 2020.

Since then, it has been driven sparingly during the summers and has covered 8,550 km since completion.

Fakten zum Modell

The Volvo PV Duett was produced between 1953 and 1969.
The Duett was developed based on the Volvo PV to open up a new market for customers in need of a more spacious vehicle. The result was the Volvo Duett, launched in 1953. The name reflected Volvo’s idea of the car serving a dual purpose—as both a utility vehicle and a passenger car. It was designed and engineered by Erik Skoog.
Before that, estate, van, and ambulance versions of the PV had been produced by independent coachbuilders on special delivery chassis known as the “PV 445,” introduced by Volvo in 1949. Production of the 445 chassis continued alongside the Duett until 1961.
Originally called the PV 445 Duett, the model was updated in 1960 as the P210 Duett, which differed from its predecessor with features such as a one-piece windshield instead of a split design.
The Duett can be seen as Volvo’s first estate car, though it became especially popular among farmers and tradespeople. Many will remember the orange Duetts used for years by the Swedish telecommunications authority (Televerket). Other major customers included the postal service (yellow cars with black front fenders and front panels) and the military, which in some cases equipped the vehicles with a roof hatch for aerial observation. A small number of cars were also produced with a full rear tailgate.
