"A fantastic car that has stayed remarkably free from rust thanks to Tectyl treatment and never being driven in winter. The Austin runs perfectly and is in top condition both inside and out."

Beschreibung

Sven-Eric Kjell was a skilled and passionate mechanic who ran a well-renowned car workshop in Nässjö.
This car was bought new on June 11, 1965, by Greta Andersson in Eksjö. The dealership was Motorcentralen in Nässjö, where Sven-Eric worked. Greta took great care of the car and had it Tectyl-treated right away.

She entrusted Sven-Eric with servicing and maintaining the car until she stopped driving in 1986, at which point he took over ownership. The car was stored away for 17 years before Sven-Eric brought it back out and restored it. The front fenders had rusted and were replaced and repainted in the original Laguna Beige. The engine was in good condition, so it was serviced and given a fresh coat of paint.

Since then, the Austin has been driven very sparingly during the summers.
Sadly, Sven-Eric passed away in 2024, and his widow now hopes that a true enthusiast will take over ownership and preserve the car’s unique condition.

An article about the car was published in the magazine Klassiker, issue 4 from 2004 — a copy is included among the photos.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

The car runs excellently and functions well, although the starter motor sticks for a second when starting. It was thoroughly inspected and serviced around 20 years ago and has since been driven only very sparingly.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The original interior is in gently used condition, with some areas showing signs of sun fading.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The paintwork is in excellent condition, with a beautiful shine and no damage. The chrome is also in top condition, with only minor pitting on the radiator emblem.
The tires are in good shape and mounted on the original wheels.

  • Zustand gesamt:

An exceptionally fine car that truly deserves to be cared for — there aren’t many of these left on the roads today.

Fakten zum Modell

Once the design of the Mini was completed, Alec Issigonis began working on a larger family car built on the same principles. ADO comes from the project name Amalgamated Drawing Office project number 16. The new car was fitted with a larger version of BMC’s A-series engine and featured disc brakes at the front. The body was designed by Pininfarina. With the ADO16, BMC introduced its Hydrolastic suspension, which would later be used in an increasing number of the group's models. Hydrolastic was based on hydraulic suspension units that replaced conventional springs and dampers.

Production of the car began in the summer of 1962, and it remained the best-selling car in the UK throughout the 1960s, competing with the more conventional Ford Cortina.

1100/1300
Initially, the car was only available with an 1100cc engine. On the British home market, only four-door bodies were offered, but a two-door version was soon introduced for export. The Austin and Morris models came with a single carburettor, while other versions were equipped with more powerful twin-carburettor engines. In 1966, estate variants from Austin and Morris were added. From June 1967, the four higher-spec models could be ordered with a 1275cc engine with a single carburettor.

In October 1967, the Mark II version was introduced, distinguished by smaller tail fins. Two-door cars were now also available on the home market, and the 1275cc engine became an option in the lower-priced models. From spring 1968, the four higher-spec versions came only with the larger engine, now equipped with twin carburettors.

In the autumn of 1969, the consolidation of brands began, and Riley was phased out. Instead, Austin and Morris were offered in the 1300 GT version with twin carburettors.

In September 1971, the final Mark III version was introduced, featuring a redesigned dashboard and improved seats. At this point, only Austin, Wolseley, and Vanden Plas versions remained in production.
