After that, the history is partly unknown, but it should be possible to trace through the National Archives. At some point—likely in the 1990s—it was exported to Germany, where it was owned by a Volvo enthusiast. The current owner purchased it there in 2010. At the time, it was in good condition and was driven year-round as a daily driver. The engine is said to have been replaced, and the car has also been equipped for gas operation.
The current owner has maintained and serviced the car well, carrying out various maintenance tasks; among other things, he purchased a new Zenith carburetor via CVI Automotive. The car later returned to Sweden as part of a relocation and was registered for road use again on August 22, 2023. It was then registered as a 1961 model, likely due to its registration in Germany, but according to Volvo’s Historical Archive it is in fact a 1962 model.
Some spare parts are included with the car. It is inspected and ready to drive.

Zustand technisch
Starts easily and the engine runs well. During a short test drive in a residential area, everything appeared to function properly, including steering, brakes, road holding, clutch, and gearbox. The brake pedal tended to stick slightly in the depressed position, which can likely be resolved with an inspection and bleeding, though braking performance was good. The gas system has not been tested.
Not inspected on a lift, but what could be seen of the vital components looked good. There were no remarks from the vehicle inspection in connection with its import to Sweden. -
Zustand Interieur
Nice and light interior with good comfort in both the front seats and rear bench. There is a small repair on the side/back of the driver’s seat and minor wear on the seat cushion. The door panels are in good condition, the headliner is newer, and the rubber mats are in good shape. Steering wheel, controls, and dashboard are in fine original condition. The instrument cluster has been replaced.
The mileage is unknown, but considering the car’s condition and overall state, it is likely to have relatively low mileage. -
Zustand Exterieur
Fine paintwork in original finish and color 65. The exact time of repainting is unknown, but it likely took place in the 1990s. Other details such as chrome, trim, glass, and lighting components are of similar quality and in good condition; the bumpers are made of stainless steel. The Volvo emblem on the trunk lid has come loose but is included. Newer Vredestein tires in a period-correct style are in good condition and mounted on powder-coated rims. Nice auxiliary lights and rearview mirrors. The engine bay and trunk compartment are in good condition.

Zustand gesamt
Here, it’s simply a matter of getting in and driving for anyone looking for a usable classic with plenty of driving enjoyment. There are some details to restore for those who want a strictly original specification, but regardless, this is a fine classic and an enthusiast car from the folkhem era.

Fakten zum Modell
The updated car was intended to complement the new Amazon, and with a larger, one-piece, slightly curved windshield and a bigger rear window, it gained a more modern appearance. It also received new, larger taillights. Inside, it featured horizontal instruments and a padded upper dashboard. The rear seat became more spacious and was described as a three-seater.
Initially, it was sold as the Standard, Special I and II, and Sport versions. The latter came with three-point seatbelts as standard. For the 1962 model year (PV544C), the B18A engine was introduced, along with a revised front suspension and steering. It also gained a 12-volt electrical system, as well as seatbelts and windshield washers as standard equipment.
A total of 37,900 cars of the C version were produced. On October 20, 1965, production of the PV 544 came to an end, with a total of 444,000 units built.

- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
