"Despite its age, has an unusually user-friendly and robust aura."

Description

It was sold new in Stockholm in July 1970, and by 1978 the current owner had purchased the bike. At that time, it was red. He has traveled everywhere and extensively, reportedly over 250,000 kilometers throughout the years. The motorcycle has been rebuilt in various forms (hence also different headlamps with different speedometers and different odometer readings) and iterations for a more modern appearance, but when the bike got a new sidecar, it was restored to its original appearance. The sidecar, the GP Manx model from Watsonian Sidecars, was a special edition when the company celebrated its 100th anniversary in the sidecar industry in 2012.

Around 2015, it got a new engine from an R90S, and thus also new Dellorto carburetors, specific for that engine version. Since then, the bike has covered 4,400 kilometers. The current owner is a devoted BMW motorcyclist who travels far and frequently year-round with his other bikes, unfazed by adverse weather or any other challenges that a two-wheeler might find off-putting. Therefore, this auctioned bike has seen a large part of Northern Europe during its active time, mainly in the eighties and nineties. For the last 10-15 years, it has mostly served as a classic motorcycle for shorter leisurely rides in good weather to meetups and social events. The latest and thus the final inspection was carried out on June 7, 2017.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

A secure and dependable boxer feel in the machine; an R90S engine fits well in this ensemble. The engine is labeled R75 for a correct original look, but it is indeed an R90S with its Dellorto carburetors and a new sleek stainless exhaust system including silencers. A nice and unique detail is the five-speed Kaiser Hartmann gearbox that also has a reverse gear – a very useful comfort feature, to say the least.

  • Interior condition:

A nice, new, and intact saddle, naturally, paired with a stylish canvas cover for the sidecar. Two neat sets of original toolkits are included.

  • Exterior condition:

Clean and polished, shiny black paint and fine chrome with beautiful details and emblems. The sidecar is attached very securely with continuous attachment points in the frame, thanks to a support frame from specialist Sven Svensson, and in this way, it is fully integrated into the bike's movements. The sidecar also displays some truths at the rear from a BMW motorcyclist's perspective.

  • General condition:

A classic bike with a newly manufactured classic sidecar in an equally classic, enthusiast-well-maintained fine condition.
