"A very good restoration project that is drivable, as the engine has been renovated. However, the brakes require attention and inspection. The body needs some welding work and a paint job."

Description

The current owner's account:

I bought the car in early summer 1977 from Bilcentrum in Oskarshamn. According to the seller, the car had been owned by the table tennis player Hans Alsér, who bought it during his time as a national coach in Germany. When Hans returned to Sweden in 1974, he brought the car with him, and in December 1976, it was sold to Karl Erik Holmström at Bilcentrum in Oskarshamn.

When I purchased the car, the front fenders were already repaired at the top due to rust, and the entire car had been repainted. However, the new paint oxidized quickly, so a couple of years later, I had it repainted again at Folksam Auto in Växjö (now Attracco). The car was only driven during the summer and stored in a barn during the winters for the first few years. In the early years of ownership, I performed a couple of rust repairs myself – the front jack point on the driver's side gave way, so I reinforced the sill, and later, I welded a reinforcement at the upper left rear shock absorber mount. As far as I know, these are the only rust repairs that have been done. The car was involved in a minor rear-end collision at one point, which led to the installation of a new center grille and new parts in the bumper.

In 1982, we moved to our current residence, and when our first child was born in 1984, the car was never taken out after being winter-stored. For the first 30 years, it was kept in a warm garage under the house, and later, it was stored in my workshop, which is insulated and kept frost-free during the winter.

The original engine developed a coolant leak into one of the cylinders during storage, and after 30 years, it wouldn't turn over. I managed to find a 3.0-liter engine from 1975, which is now installed in the car. The carburetor and other peripheral equipment were retained from the old engine. When I replaced the engine, I also installed a new radiator and replaced all rubber hoses in the cooling and fuel systems.

Included equipment:

The car comes with an almost complete interior in good condition and the same blue color (front and rear seats, door panels, and floor mats). The only missing part is the section between the rear seats and the parcel shelf. Some smaller floor mat sections are missing, and the driver's seat is slightly askew in the undercarriage.

Economy plates from Wallothnesch: Sill plates (left and right), lower part of front fenders (left and right), and the panel behind the rear wheel arches (left and right).

An original Hella high-beam insert and a pair of Bosch high-beam inserts.

The original engine (if interested).

Additionally, there are chrome trims around the front and left front fender, and a couple of extra motors with worm gears for the rear power windows (there was a plan to electrify the front windows). Chrome trims under the rear side windows and a pair of stainless steel inner sill plates.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine runs well and was overhauled several years ago but has seen very little use. The brakes require a thorough inspection and possibly some maintenance.

  • Interior condition:

The original interior is in reasonable condition, but there is also an additional set of seats in top-notch condition included. The original steering wheel is available as well.

  • Exterior condition:

Some rust repair is needed in a few areas, and replacement parts made of high-quality sheet metal are included. After the rust repair, the car will be repainted. All the chrome parts are in great and undamaged condition.

  • General condition:

A coveted BMW Coupe that, after renovation, will become an appreciated and sought-after collector's car.
