"An enthusiast's Volvo to be used enthusiastically; it has rested far too much in recent years, according to the owner."

Description

The first owner takes delivery of his new 244 from Volvo Verdexa in Lund on July 19, 1984. Two years later, his wife takes over the car. According to the recounted history, she doesn't have a driver's license, so the car isn't driven, and she consequently doesn't find any use for it. Therefore, after a few years, she hands over custody to her best friend, the current owner's grandmother. She had problems with her left leg and wanted a car with an automatic transmission. Eventually, 18 years later, the grandmother transfers the car to her grandson, who has cared for it since 2010, driving only a few hundred kilometers.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine purrs healthily with its characteristic fan sound, and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The car received authorized Volvo service up until 2003 and 49,000 kilometers, and the timing belt was replaced at 45,000 kilometers by the current owner for his grandmother. Thus, the 60,000-kilometer service hasn't been officially recorded in the service book, but oil service has still been performed regularly by the owner, despite the modest mileage. Other recent service actions include replacing the main brake cylinder, water pump, brake calipers, and the entire ignition system, including cables, rotor, distributor cap, and spark plugs.

  • Interior condition:

Impeccable interior with nice resilient upholstery, both good original rubber mats and fabric mats, combined with a complete and clean headliner and neat door panels. However, there are some surprising scratches on the steering wheel horn buttons and on the instrument panel, which are primarily visible in soft direct light, as seen in the photos.

  • Exterior condition:

A maintained original paint with a touch of patina; the owner points out a small dent on the right rear fender. He also found some rust in the left spare wheel well, which he welded and repaired. Apart from that, it boasts a sleek and very presentable exterior.

  • General condition:

Impressive history, attractive color, low mileage, and a well-maintained, beautiful condition. Another one of these finely preserved Volvo 240s that are now becoming collector's items for all those Volvo enthusiasts who often say: "Yes, I grew up in one of those, you know, so it's fun to ride in a childhood memory."
