Description

The car was purchased new in Visby by Mr. Ingvar Johansson. He took care of his Mercedes and had it serviced according to Philipsson's recommendations. In 1992, he sold the car to a neighbor in Hemse, who continued to take care of and enjoy the car. The care given to the car is evident both in its condition and in the accompanying service book. Most inspection protocols since the car was new are also included, with photos of a selection of these.

The third owner on Gotland was Mr. Anderson in Slite. When he passed away in 2007, the widow's brother bought the Mercedes and took the car home to Värmland. After 17 years of ownership, the current owner is now selling the car. The car will be delivered with a new inspection at the vehicle inspection station and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Equipped with a four-cylinder inline engine producing 98 horsepower along with an automatic transmission. The engine starts so quickly and effortlessly that it's quite remarkable. It drives smoothly on the road. The chassis feels solid, typical of Mercedes, along with the characteristic steering.

  • Interior condition:

Nice interior, which is above average for both mileage and model. There's the classic wear on the driver's seat backrest that occurs when the driver slides in and out of the car. See picture. The headliner is intact and neat, with no cracks in the dashboard. Equipped with a contemporary Knutsson car stereo with cool speakers of that time on the parcel shelf. The sunroof slides smoothly and effortlessly when opening.

  • Exterior condition:

Straight and sleek body. The famous "vault-like" feeling when closing the door of a Mercedes is present here. Nice bumpers and shiny moldings. Original paintwork with a few minor surface rust spots, doesn't seem to be anything serious, see separate pictures. Clean underneath, new exhaust system. Equipped with period-correct aluminum wheels. Correct original hubcaps included, so anyone wishing to switch to original wheels only needs to get 4 steel rims.

  • General condition:

A solid Mercedes that leaves a very good impression.

Owner's comment

I bought the car from my sister who lives on Gotland. When her husband passed away, she needed to sell the Mercedes. I didn't hesitate and bought it on the spot. It's rare to find a W123 in such well-preserved condition. I've used it as a delightful summer car. Now, after owning the car for 17 years, I feel it's time to let it go to a new owner.

Facts about the model

The Mercedes-Benz W123 was a passenger car manufactured between January 1976 and January 1986. For long periods, the 123 series was West Germany's best-selling car. Production totaled a remarkable 2,696,915 units.

For the 1980 model year, the interior received a minor facelift with a new design for the upholstery and some new color options. Additionally, various minor improvements and upgrades were made continuously.

By the 1983 model year, a second facelift was implemented. The rectangular headlamp inserts, previously reserved for the 280 models and the 230 coupé, became standard across the entire lineup. Other exterior changes included blackened fresh air intakes in front of the windshield and modified front and rear roof pillars aimed at reducing wind noise. Interior upgrades featured new materials, and the instrument panel received richer wood trim. Cars with fabric upholstery no longer had artificial leather on the sides. The headrests received a new design for better rear visibility, and the rear seats were modified to provide better knee room. Standard equipment was improved in several areas, with power steering becoming standard on all models. Instruments were supplemented with an economy gauge, and the passenger side mirror could now be adjusted electrically from the center console.
