Beschreibung

The car was purchased by the current owner in 1981 in this condition with the ambition to restore it. Various new parts were acquired, and the car was re-registered in 1993. However, time hasn't allowed for its completion, so the owner wants another enthusiast to take over and finish the car.

Fakten zum Modell

Donald Healey started manufacturing cars in Warwick after World War II. The power source used was Riley's large four-cylinder engine. In the early fifties, it became clear that this engine would soon disappear, and they needed to look for a new supplier. At the London Motor Show in 1952, Healey showcased an open sports car with an engine from the Austin A90 Atlantic. The A90 had been a big failure for Austin, leaving them with unused production capacity and leftover parts in stock. Austin's chief, Leonard Lord, saw an opportunity in Healey's car to both offer customers a new model and make use of resources. During the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show, an agreement was reached between Donald Healey and Lord Leonard that Austin would supply engines to Healey. Designer Gerry Coker immediately developed a new emblem for the car that incorporated both Austin and Healey.
Austin Healey 100 BN1. Production of the new car, with the internal designation BN1, started in Longbridge in early 1953. In addition to the engine, the gearbox, rear axle, and significant parts of the front suspension were sourced from the A90. The body was simple, featuring a thin convertible top and removable side windows in the doors. The windshield could be folded forward/down, and wire wheels were standard equipment. A rhombus-shaped radiator grille was located at the front. Production amounted to 10,688 cars.
