Description

The current owner enjoys American cars and has several. He purchased this car at an estate sale earlier this year after having never seen this model before and fell in love with it. Most of his cars are more modern, and he believes he will not use this one enough, so it is time to sell it. The car was originally white, and the previous owner had wrapped it in blue vinly to a good standard; you can still see the white paintwork under the bonnet, but the side opening vents on the wings have been wrapped over and will need to be cut out to be proper. Some minor blisters are visible in places under the wrap.  The car was imported from the United States to Sweden in 2006; it runs and drives fine and is ready to go.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

No comments during the test drive runs and drives fine in the engine, gearbox, and brakes and fitted with a new battery and the exhaust looks recently newly fitted. Good tires and wheels.

  • Interior condition:

The interior appears to be very original and complete, and the seats are in good condition with signs of wear and small marks, having been reupholstered at some point. Good door cards and headliner, as well as acceptable but worn floor carpets. Clean dashboard and good instrumentation.

  • Exterior condition:

The cars have been wrapped, and some small blisters can be seen under the wrap, but the bodywork is straight and the underbody is solid. Some surface rust under the boot mat, and the spare wheel is missing. The wrap is lifting around the edge of the boot lid (as seen in the photos).

  • General condition:

If you're looking for something unique and hard to come by in Europe, this could be the car for you.

Facts about the model

The Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk, also known as the GT Hawk, was a sporty two-door coupe produced by the Studebaker Corporation from 1962 to 1964. It was designed by the renowned industrial designer, Brooks Stevens, who also designed other iconic cars such as the Jeep Wagoneer and the Miller-Meteor ambulance used in the Ghostbusters movie.

The GT Hawk was based on the Studebaker Hawk model, which was first introduced in 1956. The GT Hawk featured a more modern and aerodynamic design, with a long hood, a short rear deck, and a sloping roofline. It was available with several engine options, including a 4.7-liter V8 engine that produced up to 225 horsepower.

The GT Hawk was praised for its stylish design and good performance, with a top speed of around 120 mph. However, it faced tough competition from other sporty cars of the era, such as the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Corvette, and sales were not as high as Studebaker had hoped.

Studebaker faced financial difficulties in the early 1960s and production of the GT Hawk was discontinued after the 1964 model year.
