"Exceptionally nice original car."

Description

This is one of 450 cars built in Wimbledon white with white upholstery and white inlays in the side mouldings, as well as Kelsey Haynes spoked wheels with white-walled tyres. A/C, power brakes, power steering, tinted windows, AM radio, and a remote rear view mirror were added to the list of options. There was already a powerful 390" V8 with 315 horsepower and a Cruise-o-Matic automatic transmission. The car was sold new to a doctor in Phoenix, Arizona, who, by all accounts, took exceptional care of it. It first appeared in Sweden in 2009. The current owner purchased it in 2014, and later that year it was featured in a significant piece in Nostalgia magazine number 11 in 2014. Since then, it has won numerous honours, including best original car and people's choice. It is estimated that it has only driven 108,000 kilometres since leaving the manufacturer.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The Thunderbird was not a sports car, but rather a "personal luxury car" with adequate power. Runs as smoothly and silently as one would expect from a car in this class. The engine and drivetrain appear to be in excellent shape, and the gearbox shifts so smoothly that they are barely discernible. The suspension and damping feel decent on the car. The gauges, lights, radio, and air conditioning all function properly. There is no play in the hinges, doors, hatches, and so on.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is a gorgeous tinted white colour that compliments the exterior. The upholstery is made of vinyl and is virtually faultless. The interior roof is stain-free, and nothing in the cabin appears to have been sun-bleached or utilised. The driver's seat has minor wear and some stitches are gone in the edge of the backrest. The state can only be characterised as incredibly well kept. The original white lustre can be easily restored by a valet. Floor mats are flawless, as are the original Thunderbird rubber mats, which have become brittle with age but continue to be of great quality. Instruments, controls, and shinny details - of which there are many - are in excellent condition. The steering wheel has a few age cracks but little wear.
When you look into the luggage compartment, you can see the original carpet in virtually new condition; when you lift it, it is just as nice and fresh on the floor and details. The original sticker for how to operate the jack may be found in the tailgate, on the right side - unused. Likewise, the original spare wheel is still in place.
The enormous 390" engine with the big gold coloured air box dominates the engine bay, and the condition and finish are very good and well preserved here. Most of the factory quality stamps and paint marks are still present. All of the wiring and mounting brackets are in place. Some of the decals have most likely been replaced, but everything is still in place. Clean, nice, and pretty much as it was when it left the band on June 11, 1964.

  • Exterior condition:

In near-perfect condition - the paint has a very high polish and shows signs of having partially repainted. Mostly in the back, around the tailgate, and possibly in the door frames. Regardless, the paintwork is excellent, with only a few minor imperfections. The chrome and bright portions are excellent, with the exception of a minor mark under the front right bumper, which is otherwise superb. Similarly, the fashionable spoke rims are perfect on the inside and out. The underneath and wheel housing are immaculate, and the undercarriage has been treated and dry, so there is no leaking from the engine or gearbox. The exhaust system has been modified, the date is unknown, but it looks new and excellent.

  • General condition:

An impressive car in every way, incredibly well preserved and almost untouched, this is one of the finest Thunderbirds from these years that can be found.
