"A nice police motorcycle that appears to be in original condition, although communication equipment, blue lights, and siren have been removed. Now it's ready for civilian duties."

Beschreibung

This motorcycle was registered for traffic in Sweden in March 2003; it was purchased by the Police Authority and stationed for service in Västra Götaland. It was owned by the Police until August 2020. In September 2020, the current owner acquired the motorcycle. The Police usually keep their motorcycles for a much higher mileage, but this one was used relatively sparingly and may have reached its age limit.

With the motorcycle, there are documents that show the maintenance and verify the mileage during the Police ownership. Additionally, materials for Police decals/reflections are included, although they have been removed (there are some pictures showing how it looked). The ABS unit has been recently replaced. The motorcycle is delivered with a valid inspection and ready to ride.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

With low mileage and documented service history, this motorcycle is in very good condition. It starts easily and runs smoothly. Inclement weather prevented a test ride, but a brief demo ride was conducted, and everything appears to be functioning as expected.

  • Zustand Interieur:

The saddle, fairings, instruments, and other rider equipment are in very good condition.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

The paint is nice and glossy, and other parts are in good condition. There is a small scrape on the left side near the rearview mirror/turn signal housing and underneath on the left cylinder cover. The wheels and tires are in great condition.

  • Zustand gesamt:

A motorcycle with a documented history from the Police Authority is a definite classic and of historical interest to collectors.

Fakten zum Modell

The police have used various vehicles over the years to assist in their work. Motorcycles were used in different police districts, but it wasn't until 1954 that the national police authority initiated a comprehensive program with the primary goal of more effective traffic monitoring. This marked the systematic use of motorcycles in policing. Simultaneously, they established a central training program for motorcycle riders.

Various motorcycle brands were used, but in 1954, the first BMW models, specifically the R67, were put into service. BMW and their boxer engines with shaft drive eventually dominated the police motorcycle fleet. BMW had been manufacturing motorcycles with boxer engines and shaft drive since 1923 when they introduced the R32. In the late 1950s, police motorcycles were white with black striping and chrome tank sides. When the police authority was nationalized in 1965, all motorcycles were given a similar appearance. With the first delivery of BMW R60/5 and R75/5 in April 1971, the police motorcycles became entirely white. To reduce costs, chrome was eliminated from the gas tanks. The R80/7 model was introduced later, but eventually, the boxer engine fell out of use. When the new BMW K75 with an inline engine was introduced in 1986, the boxer motorcycles were gradually phased out. In 1989, the last R-series motorcycles were retired. However, this turned out to be temporary. In 1996, BMW introduced an entirely new factory-made motorcycle, the R1100 RT, marking the return of the boxer engine, much to the delight of many police officers.

The successor, BMW RT1150 RT, was manufactured from January 2000 to March 2006. It had an increased displacement to 1130 cm3 and 95 hp with Motronic fuel injection and six gears. The factory performance figures indicated 0-100 km/h in just under five seconds and a top speed of 204 km/h. It featured dual front disc brakes and a single rear disc with ABS.
